All the fun of the fair!

I think I have finally recovered from the exhaustion after going to the Christmas Vintage and Handmade Fair at Chipping Sodbury on Saturday.  There was so much to see and so very many things to tempt me.  As you can see from the photo I succumbed to the urge to buy - just once or twice.

I've got so many ideas of what I want to do with all the beautiful things I bought.  I hope you can see how lovely the tablecloth is.  I just love that the flowers are so recognisable as English wildflowers and so evocative of springtime.

Happy crafting

Christmas is a-coming!

Hi Everyone

Well the craft sale at work last week was a bit of a disappointment.  That's the trouble when the company staff are based over four offices and you have no idea who will be at your location on the day, and as it turned out most people seemed to be at the other offices.  I felt really sorry for the others who had worked so hard to make their jewellery, cakes, and Christmas puds.  The only thing that went really quickly was the plateful of free bitesize pieces of Christmas cake!  I saw it as my duty to try the chocolate cake and lemon cupcakes, and they were delicious.  I did sell a few things but not enough to pay off the mortgage!!!  The funny thing is I have sold 3 lengths of bunting since the fair to a friend who was very pleased I hadn't sold them at work.

I thought you might like to see a few of the things I made for the fair.

I hope you like them because I had such fun making them but then again that's the whole point isn't it?

I'm off to the Vintage and Handmade Christmas Fair at Chipping Sodbury this weekend where I am hoping to pick up some ideas and perhaps one or two goodies!

Chat again soon.  Meanwhile happy crafting.

Pretty things - just what the doctor ordered

Following on from the frustration in my last blog I took a trip to a favourite antique shop to cheer myself up.  Unsurprisingly I found a couple of "sweeties" that just yelled at me to rescue them from their boredom.

As you can see one was a beautiful hand embroidered tablecloth and the other was a pretty little teacup, saucer, two side plates, cream jug and sugar bowl, all of which have now been added to my growing collection of pretty vintage items.  I also saw a lovely blue and white Victorian cup, saucer and plate set which also cried out to me to be bought.  Well actually there were 2 sets and it would have been very cruel to leave one set sitting there all alone so I bought them both.  Somehow tea tastes so much better out of bone china and cake too off a pretty plate.  And did I mention I also have a bit of a thing for cake stands?  Perhaps I'll take a few more photos to show them to you.

Happy crafting.

Frustrating times

Hi Everyone

I don't suppose you want to hear my troubles but I'm going to share them anyway.  We have the builders in at the moment as we are having our loft converted.  They have been here for 5 or 6 weeks now and they are lovely guys but the whole house has a layer of dust that no amount of effort seems to shift.  Now I'm not normally someone who minds about dust.  After all time spent dusting is time I could be using to make something rather than just circulating the irritating particles around the house.  Don't get me wrong, I like a clean house but I am more particular about clean floors than clean shelves.  I think it comes from all those years of having small children crawling around playing on the floors.  And now we have two labradors whose main aim in life seems to be to shed as many hairs as possible over every surface they come in contact with.  How is it possible for them to do this but not be bald?  Back to the builders, the main job has been done and there is just the final snagging to do before the building inspector can pay us a visit and issue us with a nice piece of paper with a big tick on it.  Yesterday the site manager said he was going to come to do something so I was told I could not work out in my garden room in case I missed his ring at the door.  So I spent most of the day sitting inside waiting and waiting and waiting.  At 3pm I rang the dear man to ask when he anticipated arriving only to be told that actually he was tied up on a job elsewhere and wouldn't be able to come until Monday!!!!  Don't you just hate it when they do that?  All that time wasted, and all I had to show for it was a couple of Christmas tree decorations.

So when I have finished cleaning the floor today I am going out to my garden room to make something wonderful..................and should anyone come to the door I'm afraid they will just have to go away unanswered.

Thank you for listening.  I feel a lot better now.

Fun weekend.............Sunday 6 November 2011

Hi Everyone

I have had such a fun weekend making stuff, and thinking about making stuff.  Isn't it lovely just to sit and think about what you can make.  I love it when the creative juices flow.  The trouble is at the moment there are so many things I want to make that when I finally get around to making something it takes ages because I keep thinking what if I do it this way or that way, and one thought just seems to lead on to another that before you know it you have actually taken half a day with not very much to show for it.  And then you get called away to do something else and suddenly "pooph" and the thing you were thinking about has gone completely out of your mind.  I have a terrible memory at the best of times but I hate it when a thought flies in and out again just as quickly before I can capture it.  I am a great one for making lists or writing little post-its, and I must have several little notebooks where I write down ideas or websites that have inspired me.  I have always been a very organised person and with my memory getting steadily worse it is really important that I keep things as simple and logical as I can then hopefully I will be able to remember what it is that I am trying to remember, if that makes sense.

Anyway back to this weekend.  We will be holding a mini craft fair at work later this month so I have been busy making things for that.  All unsold items will be put in my "shop" once I get my website up and running.

The Christmas elves have been busy in my workroom:

And of course while I was busy making things to sell I also got a little sidetracked and made a present for one of my friends who just loves gingham, hearts and ribbons (a woman of great taste obviously).

Altogether a great weekend - and a red admiral butterfly was sunning itself on the side of the house too.

And so it begins....................! Friday 4 November 2011

Welcome Everyone to my very first blog.  I could say I know what I am doing but I am not sure that I do.  All I can say is that you have to dip your toe in the water sooner or later and my time is now.  After years learning how to do this craft or that craft I have taken the decision to try and tempt other people into my little circle.  I like to think of myself as a late developer, and my mother loves to tell people how surprised she was that I should do City & Guilds when she remembers the awful embroidery sampler I produced for my Brownie embroidery badge.  (Why is it that mums love to embarrass their children like that?  Mind you I see it as my role in life now as far as my boys are concerned.  That and to spend their inheritance!)

For years I have gone to craft shows and exhibitions and supported other craftsmen and women and wondered what it would be like to be on the other side of the counter.  Now I am going to attempt to see, and so welcome to WendyRoomCreations.  Why WendyRoomCreations you may ask?  Well last year my wonderful husband built me my own workroom at the end of the garden.  I call it my garden room but he insists it is my Wendy room, as in Wendy house, and there is where I can now play quite happily for hours on end (interruptions permitting) and not have to clear away anything so that the table can be laid or homework be done.  I feel so blessed and I love it.

I've probably gone on far too long to keep anyone else interested but I look forward to updating this blog regularly and will hopefully work out how to add a few photos so you can see what I am getting up to.
